Guess who built the Waterloo bridge?

500 men started the job on this iconic structure but only 50 were still available by 1941 when they were called to war…

“Thousands of women entered the building industry in 1941. By 1944 there were nearly 25,000 women working in the construction industry in Britain – labourers, concrete workers, carpenters, welders, bricklayers and so on”.  It’s estimated that the labour power that built London’s Waterloo Bridge was between 75% and 90% female”.
